Vanity

I wouldn't consider myself to be high maintenance. Medium maintenance maybe, but definitely not high.

I get 2 pedicures a year, I opt for comfort over fashion most times (especially for shoes, cuz DUDE, blisters suck donkey balls), and even though I own a flat iron and have a strange addiction to hairspray, I "do" my hair maybe once every 2 weeks and put on makeup only when entirely necessary (or when I feel the need to be pretty. Cuz c'mon, every girl just wants to get gussied up sometimes for no apparent reason.)

So I'm very conflicted on getting a "cosmetic procedure" done solely for vanity's sake.

I had no problem visiting a plastic surgeon's office to get "work" done (a procedure where I paid a doctor to slice open my chest and hack & suck 3 pounds of fat out of me) because it was 99% to resolve medical issues. Afterwards, my back pain went from 10 to 2 on the chronic pain scale, and the deep divots in my shoulders softened to slight dips.

And other people, no problem. You could chop your nose off, replace it with a silver button, suck out your belly fat and remove 2 ribs to reduce your waistline and, dude, all the more power to ya. If that's what makes ya happy, it's your time and money... You go for it!!!

Okay, the thing is, I have sun spots on my face. It's obvious which side of the family I get it from, as I know a few other relatives that have them too. Most people would be all "DUDE, I hardly even notice them!", but every time I look in the mirror, they're there, GLARING back at me. I got them checked, and they're totally harmless, physically. When I expressed my concern about them and "HOW DO I GET RID OF THEM?" to my Dr., she handed me a referral to a dermatologist. "They can laser them away for you," she stated.

It wouldn't cost a hell of a lot to get rid of them. Probably $300 in total. I've splurged more on highlights and a high end haircut (in my pre-parent days), and it wouldn't take very long to do (a few hour long visits). But there's a HUGE possibility of them coming back, or me getting them in other areas, and the clincher is - IT'S NOT NECESSARY. I'm not in pain, they're not huge or super dark or bumpy with long wiry orange hairs growing out of them, they're just THERE. And $300 for something that's not necessary.... Let's just say $300 is a loan payment, or a whackload of diapers, or like 10 pedicures. Do I really want to spend it on getting some small spots removed from my face? Also... Do I want to be that person that cares so much about their appearance that I need to laser stuff off of me in order to feel better about myself? And what comes next? Botox? A tummy tuck? A nose job? Will it be like getting a tattoo (Can't just stop at 1)?

Gah.

I'm still not sold. Still not 100%.

So what about you? What's your take? Would you go under the laser out of sheer vanity?

  1. I don't think it will lead you to wanting more and more things done. If you were prone to wanting some other procedure you'd already be debating getting it done.

Don't think of it as being for just vanity's sake. What's the difference between making yourself feel better physically or mentally? Both are valid reasons for stuff like this.

  2. I would totally do it if could afford it and it would make me feel better about myself.

I have contemplated many different surgeries or procedures but at the end of the day I just can justify the costs when there are other ways to attain the same results

I think you should look into the bare essentuals make up line. it is 100% natural and covers anything and everything you could think of, from pimples and uneven skin tones to full-on tomato red sunburns, all while still looking like you and not a pancake version of you.

I have been using it for almost 8 months now and I can attest to its amazing coverage. Plus the comments I get on my skin is worth more than anything to me and my self esteem

And it is WELL under $300

Check it out before you drop a load on zapping your body with a laser ;)
